
The Security Officer – Armed ensures the safety and security of people, property, assets, and
visitors while demonstrating exceptional judgment, integrity, and situational awareness. The role requires security operations experience, superior communication skills, and the ability to respond effectively under high pressure. May work independently or as part of a team. The position is a licensed professional.

Core Responsibilities
1. Armed Deterrence & Protection
- Maintain professional armed presence to deter unwanted activity and respond to active threats.
- Carry and safely maintain an approved firearm in accordance with company and all applicable laws and regulations.
- Respond to alarms, intrusions, and emergency situations with tactical precision and
adherence to the Use of Force Policies.
2. Access Control & Surveillance
- Control all ingress/egress points, verify credentials, and deny access to unauthorized
individuals. - Monitor CCTV systems, intrusion alarms, and radio communications for real-time threat assessment.
3. Incident Management & Reporting
- Assess and de-escalate situations using verbal commands and distance before considering physical force.
- Secure scenes, provide First Aid/CPR if trained, and coordinate with law enforcement during emergencies.
- Document all incidents, including firearms handling, use of force, and witness statements.
4. Equipment Accountability
- Conduct pre-shift inspections of all issued equipment and report any missing or broken equipment.
- Maintain weapon readiness and licensing.
- Activate body-worn camera (BWC) whenever unholstering a weapon or engaging in any enforcement action.
5. Client Service & Professionalism
- Serve as a professional representative of K17 Security. Greet visitors courteously, provide directions, and assist with non-security inquiries.
- Enforce client-specific rules with tact and fairness.
- Maintain a sharp, professional appearance in full uniform always.
6. Safety & Compliance
- Report all safety hazards (broken lights, wet floors, open doors) to your supervisor
immediately. - Follow all K17 policies, including use of force, de-escalation, and attendance standards.
- Read all post assignment details at the start of every shift and record all time worked
accurately.
Essential Functions
- Tactical Response: Ability to draw and accurately deploy a firearm under high stress while maintaining situational awareness.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods (8–12 hours). Ability to pursue suspects on foot, physically restrain individuals (if authorized), and move rapidly through complex environments.
- Use of Force Judgment: Deep understanding of justifiable use of force and the ability to make split-second life-or-death decisions.
- Communication: Ability to issue clear verbal and written English instructions, verbal
commands, and write reports and communicate with law enforcement and the public. - Decision-Making and Situational Awareness Under Pressure: Ability to assess rapidly
evolving situations and make sound judgments. - Maintain Maryland firearms standard. Utilize range time every 6 months though K17 resources.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in public safety, law enforcement, or military service, with a minimum high school diploma
- Valid Armed Security Guard License and Handgun Carry Permit (state-specific) or ability to obtain. Must maintain renewals throughout employment.

- Proven history of situational awareness and providing exceptional customer experiences.
- Demonstrated reliability and work ethic, with a track record of dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Clear, professional English communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to build trust with client contacts.
- Basic computer skills (email, timecards, post instructions, and incident report writing).
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, nights, weekends, and on‑call
coverage - Reliable transportation, a clean driving record, and a valid driver’s license (for roving posts or assignment-specific driving).
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred
Physical Requirements
- Standing/Walking: Must be able to stand, walk, and patrol on foot for up to 90% of a shift (8–12 hours), on various surfaces (concrete, stairs, uneven terrain).
- Lifting/Carrying: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Mobility: Must be able to climb stairs rapidly, run short distances for emergencies, crouch, kneel, bend, and maintain control of a firearm during physical exertion.
- Sensory: Vision correctable to 20/20 with normal depth perception and night vision. Ability to hear alarms and radio transmissions in noisy environments.
- Environment: Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions (rain, snow, heat) and frequent high-stress environments.
