Edge Metalworks is currently seeking a Laser Programmer & Workflow Manager
In this role, you will be the critical link between customer orders and finished products, ensuring efficient flow of operations by creating optimized nesting layouts and NC programs that drive our production floor; you will also manage production schedules, monitor material inventory, and interface directly with Sales, Engineering (CAD), and Machine Operators (including time on the production floor) to ensure on-time delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create accurate NC programs and efficient nesting layouts for sheet metal part using software such as SigmaNest, Lantek, to maximize material yield and minimize scrap.
  • Review incoming customer orders, prioritize workflows, and generate production schedules to meet delivery timelines.
  • Monitor raw sheet metal stock levels, track material usage, and ensure replenishment to prevent production delays.
  • Act as the primary technical resource for operators, providing troubleshooting, program adjustments, and clear setup documentation directly at the machine.
  • Collaborate with the CAD/Engineering department to validate designs and resolve manufacturability issues.
  • Regularly update sales and production on order status, timeline changes, and potential bottlenecks via email, phone, and in-person meetings.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies, quality objectives, and operational standards.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of proven experience with NC programming and nesting software (SigmaNest, Lantek, Turbo Boostetc.) in a sheet metal manufacturing environment. Note: Will consider training an experienced Sheet Metal Laser Operator
    looking to advance into programming.
  • High School Diploma required. Associate’s degree in a technical field or equivalent trade school certification preferred.
  • Familiarity with laser cutting processes, equipment, and sheet metal fabrication standards.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office/Google Workspace.
  • Ability to change production schedule quickly when issues arise.
  • Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings, layouts, and measurements.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to “translate” technical details.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude, collaboration and focus under pressure in a deadline-driven manufacturing environment.
  • Preferred: Experience with 2D/3D CAD software.

 Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • This role is primarily office-based. Ability to sit or stand at a desk for extended periods (approx. 90% of the shift) while operating a computer and viewing detailed engineering drawings on multiple monitors.
  • Ability to walk to the manufacturing floor (approx. 10%). This involves walking on concrete surfaces and navigating around active machinery.
  • High attention to detail required for reading blueprints, nesting layouts, and verified measurements.
  • Ability to clearly speak and hear in both a quiet office setting and a manufacturing environment with moderate background noise (machinery, forklifts).
  • Occasional lifting of files, paper reams, or sheet metal sample parts weighing up to 50 lbs.
