ROLE SUMMARY
A 9th Grade Seminar (Male Course) Faculty member at Valor Christian High School supports and mentors students through every aspect of their transition to Valor, playing a vital role in their academic and spiritual development while equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in high school. This role includes actively guiding students in managing their academic responsibilities by developing skills in organization, time management, goal setting, and self-advocacy. The teacher serves as a central support for each student, intentionally equipping and coaching them to self-advocate with key stakeholders, including classroom teachers, academic and college counselors, deans, coaches, and parents, so that students take ownership of their growth while ensuring they are holistically supported.
In addition, the Freshman Seminar teacher intentionally facilitates opportunities for students to explore their identity in Christ and understand how God has uniquely designed them with specific gifts, strengths, and purposes. Through discipleship, reflection, and meaningful experiences, students are guided to grow in self-awareness, character, and faith, while developing a clear sense of purpose and direction as they begin their high school journey.
Demonstrating strong competency in the Freshman Seminar curriculum , they collaborate with their colleagues to deliver effective instruction and intentionally integrate Biblical truth and Christian values into daily interactions. They cultivate respectful, engaging classrooms that promote critical thinking, collaboration, and growth, while investing in students through Life Groups, prayer partnerships, and co-curricular opportunities, partnering with parents and colleagues to support each student’s development.

RESULTS
Valor seeks to fulfill the expected student outcomes of spiritual formation, college preparedness, and cultural engagement. Through the 9th Grade Seminar course and interactions with the faculty member, students will have had the opportunity to experience God’s love and know that God has a plan and purpose for their life.
A successful 9th Grade Seminar Teacher will have created a highly relational, structured, and Christ-centered environment where every student is known, supported, and challenged to grow. Through intentional relationship-building and discipleship, the teacher will have shepherded each student in their transition to Valor Christian High School, helping them develop a strong sense of identity in Christ, character, and purpose. Through their excellent work, the teacher will have equipped students with essential academic and life skills while monitoring progress and addressing challenges early, having coached them toward independence and self-advocacy in working with teachers, counselors, deans, and coaches. As a key connector, they will have collaborated with others to ensure holistic support and learning experiences for students that build resilience, well-being, and belonging while reinforcing Valor Christian’s culture and values.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Advanced degree in a related area is preferred
Solid biblical and theological foundation and understanding
High school teaching experience preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The same basic physical demands described here are the same for all employees to successfully perform the essential functions of their jobs. Employees must periodically lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and could occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral/depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics are varied and include classroom, office, and outdoor events while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is also varied.
POSITION TYPE: A: Student-facing position. Traditional school calendar. August – May. This position offices in-person, on campus.
HOURS PER WEEK: Part-Time (Expected 60%, 3 section course load), Exempt (Varied hours based on rotating color block schedule)
SUPERVISOR: Dean of Academic Services
PAY RANGE: $32,000 – $35,000/year
