Summary:
The Director of Religious Education at San Sebastian Parish requires a creative, hard-working, innovative, solutions-oriented, and passionate individual. Under the general direction of the Pastor, the Director of Religious Education, implements, coordinates, and evaluates youth catechetical ministry. The incumbent is an active participant in parish activities and will successfully assume new responsibilities for the parish and provide direct support in strengthening the parish’s overall performance. As a representative of the Roman Catholic Church, the Director of Religious Education will conduct him/herself according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their duties.
 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Responsible for the assessment of needs, setting goals and priorities, and periodic evaluations of all Parish religious education programs for the youth of the parish which includes the Sunday Children’s Liturgy of the Word.
* Responsible for directing and supervising parish religious education programs including curriculum development and the selection of textbooks and materials.
* Responsible for the recruitment, selection and training of Catechists and other volunteer staff working in Religious Education programs and Liturgical ministries.
* Working with Youth Group Leader, coordinates youth group activities.
* Coordinates activities with volunteers in charge of sacramental preparation, OCIA, and Liturgy.
* Coordinates the Safe Environment for Religious Education volunteers.
* Represents San Sebastian Parish on matters pertaining to religious education.
* Performs related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned by the Pastor.

 
JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
* Bachelor of Arts in sociology, psychology, religious education, or related field.
* Possesses an initial catechist certification.
* Complete Ministry Formation Program within 4 years of hire.
* Three or more years’ experience in coordination of religious education programs and/or five or more years’ teaching experience in religious education.
* Membership and active participation in the Roman Catholic Church required.
* Knowledge of National Catechetical Directory (NCD) and recent church catechetical documents.
* Appropriate knowledge of theology and Scripture.
* Knowledge of catechetical and developmental theory for all ages.
* Knowledge of Diocesan Catechist Certification process.
* Skills in personnel recruitment, program planning, and education methods for youth catechetical ministry.
* Knowledge of principles of organization, administration, budget, and personnel management.
* Knowledge of group dynamics and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and groups.
* Ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing, and digitally with staff, parishioners, and the public.
* Proficient in various forms of social media including Facebook and YouTube.
* Proficient computer application skills to include MS Work, Excel, and PowerPoint.
* Ability to work a varied work schedule which includes working at least 2 evenings each week (currently Wednesday and Thursday) during the school year.
* Working environment includes an office setting and may include activities on Parish grounds including exposure to inclement weather.

 
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors, employees, and the public.
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
 
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
