JOB TITLE: Director of Finance FLSA STATUS: Exempt

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Responsible for the financial accounting activities and reporting of the Central Catholic Offices (CCO) of the Diocese of Sioux City, including internal controls. This includes the Diocese of Sioux City, Priests’ Pension Fund, The Catholic School Foundation, The St. James Fund and Msgr. Lafferty Tuition Foundation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Manage accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting for all entities within the CCO.
2. Responsible for the completion of the annual audits of the entities within the Central Catholic Offices.
3. Direct the finance office staff in procedures and systems necessary to maintain proper records and to afford adequate accounting controls and services.
4. Supervise and review processing of payroll and pension benefits. Assure compliance with federal and state withholding and reporting requirements.
5. Issue monthly and quarterly financial statements for departments for all entities in the CCO.
6. Coordinate with the Director of Stewardship all bequests, gifts, and planned giving opportunities.
7. Oversee the Director of Parish Accounting with parish and school accounting policies and guidance.
8. Assist the Director of Administration & Finance in special projects related to the financial operations of the Diocese and its related entities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the assignment of work and delegation of responsibilities to other employees. Authorized to interview, hire and dismiss employees; establish standards and evaluate employee performance; and initiate disciplinary procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:
Must be a Catholic in good standing with a four-year degree in accounting and a minimum of five – seven years of accounting experience. Adequate supervisory experience preferred. CPA certification preferred. Knowledge of fund accounting, payroll processing and internal auditing preferred. Experience in preparation of audit papers preferred. Experience in the use of computers and accounting software, spreadsheets and word processing required. Ability to communicate with pastors, staff and advisory boards required. Previous experience in public presentation of information and financial data desired.
PHYSICAL AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS:
Sedentary work – involves sitting most of the time, walking and standing are required occasionally. Although work is performed primarily under inside environmental conditions, the required travel may result in temporary exposure to outside environmental conditions. Regular driving and valid driver’s license are required. Excellent listening abilities and strong communication skills needed, including the ability to interact with staff, parishioners, and administrative boards and committees in verbal and written form.
