This position is a paraprofessional accounting role in the Finance Division of
the Welfare and Self-Reliance Services Department, supporting Humanitarian
Services. The incumbent is required to perform accounting tasks in support of,
and in consultation with, professional accounting personnel.

The incumbent is expected to possess broad and in-depth experience and knowledge
of accounting processes, as well as technical expertise in automated accounting
systems, including new tools and techniques being implemented throughout the
finance community.

This is a senior accounting specialist position that performs clerical
accounting assignments of above-average difficulty and resolves unusual or
nonrecurring problems related to various accounting functions. Responsibilities
include analyzing accounts, records, reports, journals, vouchers, and other
accounting and banking documents for accuracy; investigating questionable
entries and initiating corrections; and providing guidance and training to
operations staff.

Incumbents are expected to help maintain and ensure the accuracy of financial
data.

RESPONSIBILITIES

This position provides accounting and financial support for Humanitarian
Services worldwide. Responsibilities typically include the following:

* Financial Processing: Review, code, and process invoices for payment in an
accurate and timely manner.
* Account Reconciliation: Reconcile general ledger accounts and data feeding
from external systems, ensuring all outstanding items are properly cleared.
* Data Analysis: Analyze and validate financial, accounting, and operational
reports for accuracy and completeness, identifying discrepancies and ensuring
appropriate corrective action is taken.
* Journal Entries: Prepare journal entries and complex debit/credit adjustments
to maintain general ledger integrity.
* Global Support & Training: Provide financial support, guidance, and system
training to operations staff worldwide.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of two years of college-level accounting coursework, plus at least six
years of experience in financial or accounting clerical work, or an equivalent
combination of education and experience. Completion of an Associate Degree in
Accounting is preferred.

Demonstrated ability in working with complex automated accounting systems. In
general, the incumbent will have completed college-level accounting courses
through the intermediate accounting series and will have additional coursework
in managerial and cost accounting, data processing, and automated accounting and
reporting tools. 

Demonstrated ability to effectively use a personal computer in a networked
environment, with proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database, and
automated accounting and reporting software.

Thorough knowledge and understanding of accounting and bookkeeping principles,
methods, and procedures.

Strong judgment and analytical skills.
